  Inclement Weather Policy

Heavy snow or other inclement weather can impact when Hyde-DC opens or closes for the day.  Our policy on weather-related closings is outlined in our 2009-10 Parent-Student Handbook.  As indicated, the administration will determine if the weather and traveling conditions are safe for students and staff.  Hyde-DC does not necessarily follow the closing of DC Public Schools!

In the event that Hyde-DC decides to close or delay opening for the day, this information will be reported to the local television stations and radio by 5:00 a.m. In addition, an electronic alert will be sent out to parents and our phone system will be programmed to deliver a similar announcement.

Please check the following media for the most-up-to-date information on our school closing/delayed opening time:

  • Television:  NBC-TV Ch. 4, FOX-TV Ch. 5, ABC-TV Ch. 7, WUSA-TV Ch. 9
  • Radio:  WTOP (103.5 FM)
  • Hyde-DC Web site (www.hydedc.org) -- There will be an announcement in the lower-right corner of the Home page
  • Hyde-DC Telephone number -- Call 202.549.4400

Important Faculty & staff info:  In addition to the school delay or closing announcement, there will be a code listed which serves as specific instructions for the faculty and staff of the school.  Please refer to the following codes in the event of school closing or delays.

Code Red School and Administrative offices closed.  Only essential personnel (Director of Facilities and Building Engineer) report to work.

Code Yellow:  School is closed to students, faculty and hourly food service staff.  Administrative offices are open.  All support staff and administrative support staff report to work on time.

Code Green:  School opens two hours late (students & teachers).  All other staff report to work on time.

Code Orange:  School and administrative offices open two hours late.

Code Blue:  Emergency status, everyone remains in school until official notice is received from the Head of School.

If you have any doubts about whether we are opening on time, please do not hesitate to contact the school before sending or dropping your child off to school.  Please let us continue to work together to protect our greatest resource -- our children!
