Family education is the third and most important facet of our school’s mission.
Hyde's Family Teacher Resource Center (FTRC) offers Family Programs
that are designed to emphasize, foster and develop family renewal by
bringing students and parents together to focus on their personal
growth.
Parent Participation: Parents of Hyde-DC students participate in Action Reflection Activities throughout the school year.
The 2008/09 School Year Schedule of Family Program Events includes
- Parent Town Hall Meetings (Oct. 7, Dec. 9, April 7)
- Family Weekends (Nov. 8 and 9; Feb. 20 and 21; May 15 and 16) and
- Leadership Retreats (Dates to be decided).
Parent Workshops and Volunteers: There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer at Hyde-DC. Our open door policy encourages parents to become active participants in the education of their children. We are dependent on you to help keep our school strong!
Parents can choose to:
- Serve on Parent Committees to help shape academics and programs at our school. Committees at every school level (Elementary, Middle and High Schools) permit parents to work directly with the school administration to achieve short- and long-term goals for that age group.
- Attend Saturday Parent Workshops. These are designed to help parents develop educational skills and receive vocational training. Upcoming topics will include ESL, GED, Computer Skills and Financial Planning.
- Help with Personal Family Interviews.
- Holiday Baskets.
Parents also play a role in the governance of Hyde-DC. Our charter requires that two parent representatives serve on our Board of Trustees. These Board representatives directly participate in school governance and represent parent and school interests at the highest level.
