Academic excellence and preparation for the pursuit of higher education is a key component of the Hyde Program. Since 2003, one-hundred percent (100%) of Hyde-DC's seniors have been accepted to (and attend!) four-year colleges and universities. The list of colleges is impressive. Equally important is how many Hyde-DC alumni credit their Hyde education with ensuring their smooth and successful transition to college life.
"Indeed, the primary focus of our College Placement Office (CPO) is to guide students through the entire college preparation process -- touring prospective colleges; deciding which colleges to apply to; completing and submitting applications by the deadline; registering for SAT and other admissions tests; and securing financial aid, scholarships and other forms of financial assistance," said Victoria N. Watkins, college placement counselor at Hyde-DC and director of performing arts. Ms. Watkins' colleague, Harry Tucker (a college placement counselor and director of service learning at Hyde-DC) further explained: "We not only teach students the 'tools' needed to become a college scholar, but also the tools to graduate from their college or university with the education and life skills to fulfill their unique destiny."
Hyde parents and guardians also receive assistance from the CPO, which hosts
- College Prep Parent Nights to explain to families about the in-depth college application process their high school student will experience and the expectations of the student throughout the college prep process
- Financial Aid Days during which students and their families bring tax and FAFSA info to the CPO for review and submission.
